The 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its 37th biweekly consultation meeting in Beijing on Oct 15. The meeting focused on enhancing regional development strategy by deepening industrial cooperation.

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the meeting.

Wang noted that since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the CPC Central Committee has prioritized regional coordinated development. It has enriched the related concepts, strategies, and policy systems, improved systems and mechanisms, and implemented major regional development strategies. These comprehensive efforts have expanded the spatial pattern of China's economic development in depth, accumulating strong momentum for promoting high-quality development and building a modern China, Wang said.

He stressed that the CPPCC should thoroughly implement the CPC Central Committee's decisions and arrangements in this regard, conduct in-depth research and strengthen consultation and deliberation.

Wang called for in-depth research on key issues related to coordinated development of regions, including planning the regional development strategy during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), strengthening the linkage of regional development strategies, enhancing the resilience and security of industrial chains, exploring new technology for industrial innovation, developing distinctive and advantageous industries in light of local conditions, and improving the systems for industrial cooperation among different regions. He emphasized that the CPPCC should propose policy recommendations to support the implementation of relevant policies.

He also urged CPPCC members to widely publicize the achievements made in coordinated development of regions and to actively mobilize broader social support for regional coordinated development and common prosperity.

Ten members of the CPPCC National Committee and one expert shared their views at the meeting. They emphasized advancing the implementation of regional strategies, formulating plans for implementing regional strategies during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, and supporting various regions in leveraging their comparative advantages in light of local conditions, and optimizing key priorities for industrial layout to construct an economic structure featuring complementary advantages and high-quality development.

They also stressed the importance of promoting integrated development of regions, strengthening the connectivity of regional infrastructure, enhancing the innovation capacity and radiating role of regions with prosperous economies, deepening industrial collaboration between the eastern, central and western regions, and building a unified national market on the basis of regional market integration.

CPPCC National Committee vice-chairpersons Hu Chunhua, Wang Yong, Gao Yunlong, Xian Hui, Wang Dongfeng, Jiang Zuojun, Zhu Yongxin, and Yang Zhen attended the meeting. Senior officials from the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology provided briefings and engaged in discussions with CPPCC members.
