On Oct 14, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a consultation meeting in Beijing on the handling of a key proposal for accelerating the building of a unified national market. Wang Yong, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, addressed the meeting.

The meeting stressed that building a unified national market is essential for creating the new development paradigm and promoting high-quality development, and serves as a strategy to gain advantages in international competition.

Efforts should be made to give full play to the roles of the government and market to protect fair market competition, align domestic and international trade rules, and build a first-class business environment that is market-oriented, law-based and up to international standards, the meeting noted. In this way, internal driving forces and innovative capacity can be fostered for promoting the development of China's economy, so as to build a strong country and achieve the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, according to the meeting.

The meeting stressed the need to focus on outstanding issues, deepen communication and exchanges, pool consensus and pursue practical results in the process of proposal handling and consultation, in a bid to contribute to building a unified national market that is well-regulated, efficient, equitable and open.

The State Administration for Market Regulation, a major handler of the key proposal, gave briefings about the progress in building a unified national market and the status of proposal processing. Representatives of proposal sponsors and the Central Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party provided advice on lowering logistic costs, improving the mechanism for industrial transfer, regulating local investment projects, and upgrading enterprise credit evaluation systems.

Officials from the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Natural Resources provided related updates and participated in the discussion.
