The work conference of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD) on participation in and deliberation of State affairs was held in Beijing on Oct 13 and 14 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the CAPD.

Cai Dafeng, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and chairman of the CAPD Central Committee, addressed the opening session. Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and executive vice-chairman of the CAPD Central Committee, attended the opening and closing sessions and gave a closing speech.

Cai said that the CAPD should understand its progress and achievements in participating in State governance and enhance confidence in the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, on the basis of the overall framework of China's new political party system.

China's new political party system was born in the democratic revolutions since modern times, formed during the founding of the People's Republic of China, developed in the great progress of socialist revolution, construction and reform, and improved in the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era. Throughout these periods, the CAPD has stuck to its original aspirations and completed various tasks with excellence, Cai said.

On the new journey in the new era, the CAPD should summarize experience and enhance capacity of duty performance, he said. It is essential to strictly abide by the rules for political activities and understand the nuances involved in deliberating on State affairs, he noted. He urged CAPD members to prioritize their suggestions and proposals on the tasks planned by the Communist Party of China Central Committee. More efforts are needed in pooling wisdom and strength, leveraging expertise, adopting the quality-first and truth-seeking approaches, and engaging in active practices, in order to pay tribute to the 80th anniversary of the party and play a greater role in serving the nation's overall agenda, he added.

Zhu noted that the CAPD should maintain the right political orientation and improve the sense of responsibility and the sense of mission in participating in the deliberation and administration of State affairs. He called for efforts to summarize experience in performing duties, fully understand the rules of work, improve the mechanism for participating in the deliberation and administration of State affairs, and blaze new trails in innovation, in order to steadily enhance the capabilities and standards of the party in participating in the deliberation and administration of State affairs.
