The 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its 30th briefing session on issues of major concern in Beijing on Oct 10, focusing on exploring new paths for the integration and development of both sides of the Taiwan Strait and establishing a demonstration zone for the region's integrated development. Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the CPPCC National Committee and chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League, addressed the meeting.

Pan Xianzhang, deputy director of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, spoke about the relevant work progress. He said that under the CPC´s overarching strategy in the new era for resolving the Taiwan question, the construction of the demonstration zone has been advancing steadily and has achieved notable results. The office will introduce more supporting policies and measures, and focus on studying and solving key and difficult issues to better bond compatriots on both sides of the Strait, and boost the construction of the demonstration zone with more pragmatic actions, he added.

Zhang Huanteng, director of the Department of Foreign Capital and Overseas Investment of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), said that the NDRC has followed the central authority's instructions and optimized the policy environment in supporting the construction of the demonstration zone. Further efforts will be made to strengthen the overall coordination and policy support for the construction, according to Zhang. This will include reforming and innovating key platforms, promoting the integrated development in key fields, and coordinating the implementation of various policies and measures, to achieve greater success in the high-quality construction of the demonstration zone, Zhang said.

CPPCC National Committee members and officials from relevant government departments also exchanged views on issues such as improving the quality and efficiency of cross-border renminbi services, carrying out publicity campaigns on the outcomes of the demonstration zone construction, facilitating the application of "artificial intelligence plus" in various scenarios, leveraging the results of the pilot comprehensive reform for market-based allocation of factors, and promoting the mutual recognition of professional qualifications across the Strait.
