The 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its 29th briefing session on key issues of major concern in Beijing on Sept 24, focusing on strengthening the construction and effective use of national cultural parks. Shao Hong, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the meeting. 

Chen Wenjun, deputy secretary-general of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that the department has prioritized systematic protection of cultural heritage, enhanced overall coordination, increased policy and resource support and promoted the integration of culture and tourism to advance the construction of national cultural parks. Greater efforts will be made to strengthen policy guarantees, mobilize resources and ensure implementation to raise the quality of national cultural park construction, he added. 

Xiao Weiming, deputy secretary-general of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), noted that the commission has supported national cultural park development through improving planning and policy system, enhancing cultural heritage protection, and promoting cultural values. The NDRC will continue to optimize institutional mechanisms, enhance cultural interpretation and presentation, expand financial and project support, and reinforce follow-up evaluation, he said. 

Wang Xudong, a member of the leading Party members group of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, emphasized a protection-first approach, tighter management and control, phased advancement of key projects based on local conditions and wider public awareness campaigns. The ministry will continue to prioritize heritage protection with a focus on policy implementation, strengthen planning and coordination, and enhance academic interpretation efforts. 

During the session, CPPCC members exchanged views with officials from relevant departments on topics such as encouraging greater participation of local governments in national cultural park construction and improving the protection of cultural resources.
