A team of non-Communist Party of China (CPC) members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) visited Southwest China's Xizang autonomous region from Sept 7 to 11 to survey local work on ecological protection and high-quality development on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The survey was led by Wang Yong, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.
The team visited the cities of Lhasa and Nyingchi to gain first-hand knowledge of ecological conservation and restoration efforts, the livelihoods of farmers and herders, and the development of plateau-specific industries. They also had in-depth exchanges with local officials and residents to hear opinions and suggestions.
The team noted that over the past six decades, especially since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, Xizang has witnessed historic achievements. A landscape of thriving development has come into shape featuring political stability, social harmony, ethnic unity, sustained economic growth and improved living standards.
The team emphasized that the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is a vital ecological security barrier for the country and holds strategic significance for the long-term development of the Chinese nation. They underscored the need to fully implement the CPC policies on the governance of Xizang in the new era, adhere to the path of ecological conservation and green development, develop clean energy and other industries suited to local conditions, and effectively promote stability, development, ecological protection and border security.
They highlighted the unique role of the CPPCC in providing advice and building consensus, and called for greater efforts in pooling wisdom and strength to support Xizang in achieving high-quality economic and social development through high-standard ecological protection.
