Shen Yueyue, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a team to Southwest China's Sichuan province from Sept 4 to 7 to survey local efforts on urban intrinsic development.
The team went to the cities of Chengdu and Neijiang, where they visited local urban planning exhibition centers, old residential communities, industrial parks and urban renewal projects and enterprises. They also held discussions with local officials and residents on how to improve integrated and efficient urban growth and better utilize land and other resources.
The team said urban development should be guided by the overall requirements for China's cities in the new era, aligned with the goal of building modern cities and carried out in line with the decisions of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. They called for stronger political guidance to build consensus and mobilize support for advancing a Chinese path to urban modernization.
The team added that the CPPCC would leverage its role as a specialized consultative body to analyze problems in urban planning and management that hinder intrinsic development as well as intensive and economical use of resources. They pledged to offer practical, forward-looking policy recommendations to support the development of modern cities that are innovative, beautiful, living-friendly, resilient, culturally advanced and intelligent.
