A team from the Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) carried out a survey in Beijing on Sept 4, focusing on supporting young people from Hong Kong and Macao in innovation and entrepreneurship. The survey was led by Xian Hui, vice-chairwoman of the CPPCC National Committee.

The team visited the Beijing branch of Bauhinia Culture Group - a Hong Kong-based cultural enterprise, to learn about its efforts in promoting cultural and technological exchanges between Hong Kong, Macao and the Chinese mainland, as well as in supporting young people from the two regions in their studies and entrepreneurial endeavors in Beijing. The team also had discussions with officials from relevant departments.

CPPCC members stressed the need to fully tap into Hong Kong and Macao's unique blend of Eastern and Western cultural influences, deepen these two regions' cultural exchanges with the Chinese mainland, promote fine traditional Chinese culture, and do a good job at telling stories of China and of the successful practice of "one country, two systems." They called for stronger efforts to help young people from the two regions overcome challenges in study, employment, entrepreneurship and housing, while strengthening patriotic education to guide them toward contributing to national development.

Xian underscored that expanding opportunities for Hong Kong and Macao youth to study, work and start businesses on the Chinese mainland is vital to ensuring the steady and long-term implementation of "one country, two systems." She called on CPPCC members from Hong Kong and Macao to leverage their strengths, align the Chinese mainland's advantages with local needs and youth aspirations and create more opportunities for their growth and success.

Such efforts, Xian added, will help Hong Kong and Macao better integrate into the overall national development and strengthen unity of hearts and minds across the nation.
