An art exhibition hosted by the Central Committee of the China Democratic League (CDL) opened on Sept 1 in Beijing to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Ding Zhongli, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and chairman of the CDL Central Committee, announced the opening. Wang Guangqian, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and executive vice-chairman of the CDL Central Committee, gave an address at the ceremony.
Wang said that 80 years ago, the Chinese people secured a hard-won victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression through immense sacrifice, with the Communist Party of China (CPC) making decisive contributions to the victory as the backbone of the national resistance. The CDL, as a close friend of the CPC, stood shoulder to shoulder with it in the struggle for national survival, he said.
He emphasized that revisiting this history through art is a tribute to fallen heroes and an inheritance of the great spirit of resistance. The works on display, Wang said, reflect the patriotic devotion of CDL artists, intertwining artistic pursuit with the future of the nation, and they will inspire renewed strength in carrying forward the league's tradition of following the leadership of the CPC and contributing to the realization of national rejuvenation.
The exhibition features 66 works on wartime themes, presented in forms including traditional Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, sculpture, and calligraphy. More than 100 representatives from the CDL, its Art Academy, departments of its central committee and broader society attended the opening ceremony.
