BEIJING -- Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday in Beijing.
Pezeshkian is in China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2025, as well as commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
During their meeting, Wang said that the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Pezeshkian on Tuesday afternoon reached new and important consensus on deepening China-Iran relations.
China and Iran have a profound traditional friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 54 years ago, bilateral relations have maintained steady and healthy development, Wang said, noting that China is willing to enhance communication and coordination with Iran, implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and promote new progress in bilateral relations.
The CPPCC National Committee is willing to play an active role in this regard, Wang added.
Pezeshkian said the Global Governance Initiative, proposed by President Xi, is far-sighted and the Iranian side highly appreciates and supports the initiative.
Iran is ready to continue to advance practical cooperation with China, firmly support each other, jointly oppose hegemony and bullying, safeguard international fairness and justice, and deepen the relations between the two countries, he said.
