CPPCC holds briefing on strengthening enterprises’ role in innovation

The 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its 28th briefing session on issues of major concern in Beijing on Aug 28, focusing on strengthening the principle role of enterprises in scientific and technological innovation and improving mechanisms for the deep integration of sci-tech and industrial innovation. Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, addressed the meeting. 

Wang Hongyan, vice-chairperson of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), introduced relevant work progress. She said that the ACFIC has striven to advance the deep integration of sci-tech innovation and industrial innovation for private enterprises through establishing service platforms and innovating support mechanisms, which has achieved notable progress. She stressed that more efforts will be made to promote the sound development of the private economy and the healthy growth of private entrepreneurs. This will include supporting private enterprises in achieving core technology breakthroughs in key fields, accelerating the materialization and industrialization of research outcomes, channeling diverse resources to the private sector, fostering exemplary models and developing new quality productive forces in the private sector. 

Zhou Yunfan, an official with the Ministry of Science and Technology, gave a briefing on related work. Zhou said the ministry has made efforts in stepping up top-level design and policy coordination, enhancing the capacity for high-quality sci-tech resource supply, consolidating enterprises’ position as the main driver of innovation, and promoting the materialization of research results. Future efforts will be made to achieve breakthroughs in key core and frontier technologies, institutionalize enterprises' principle role in innovation and integrate scientific advances into industrial and supply chains to support the building of a modern industrial system, according to Zhou. 

CPPCC National Committee members and officials from relevant government departments also exchanged views on issues such as strengthening institutional safeguards for enterprises' role in technological innovation, reforming mechanisms for technology outcome materialization, advancing enterprise-led collaboration between industry, universities and research institutes, and exploring effective models for sci-tech financing development.
