Shen Yueyue leads survey in Zhejiang on urban development

Shen Yueyue, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a team to East China's Zhejiang province from Aug 19 to 22 for a survey on advancing intensive and sustainable urban development.

The team visited residential communities, industrial parks and commercial districts in Hangzhou and Jiaxing. They also held symposiums and engaged in discussions with grassroots officials and residents, gathering views on how to bring out potential of urban growth, enhance intensive and efficient development, and improve the conservation and effective use of resources, and space.

The team emphasized the need to fully understand the overall requirements for urban work in the new era, with the goal of building modern cities for the people. They stressed adherence to principles and implementation of policies, while mobilizing broad public participation to build consensus and pool wisdom and strength for advancing China's path to urban modernization with distinctive characteristics.

The members noted that the CPPCC, as a specialized consultative body, should leverage its institutional strengths to summarize and promote effective practices in urban renewal, structural optimization, momentum transformation, quality enhancement, green transition, cultural continuity and governance efficiency.

The team urged efforts to identify and address prominent issues in urban construction and management that are inconsistent with intensive and efficient development and efficient use of resources. They pledged to put forward targeted, pragmatic recommendations to support the building of modern cities for the people through intensive urban development.
