A conference was held in Beijing on Aug 19 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Jiusan Society. Li Ganjie, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the event and delivered a congratulatory message on behalf of the CPC Central Committee. 

The message praised the Jiusan Society for staying true to its founding mission over the past 80 years, working side by side with the CPC and making important contributions to the united front and multiparty cooperation. It noted that the Jiusan Society has been a trusted partner, adviser and colleague of the CPC, playing a vital role in China's historic transformation from standing up, to becoming prosperous and to growing strong. The Jiusan Society has also been an important force in achieving new victories for socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, building China into a modern socialist country in all respects and advancing national rejuvenation, according to the message. 

The system of CPC-led multiparty cooperation and political consultation is a fundamental political system in China, marked by historical inevitability, great creativity, remarkable advantages and strong vitality, the message said. The CPC Central Committee has attached great importance to this system and has made major arrangements to ensure the sound and sustainable growth of multiparty cooperation in the new era, the message noted. 

Looking ahead, the message called on the Jiusan Society to firmly uphold the leadership of the CPC, carry forward its patriotic, democratic and scientific traditions, fulfill its duties with dedication and strengthen self-development so as to contribute to building a strong nation and advancing national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization. 

Wu Weihua, chairman of the Jiusan Society Central Committee, reviewed the Society's 80-year journey. He urged all Society members to unite more closely around the CPC Central Committee, uphold fine traditions and pool their strength to contribute to building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects and achieving the second centenary goal. 

Jiang Zuojun, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of the Central Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party, delivered a congratulatory message on behalf of central committees of non-Communist parties and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce. 

The conference was presided over by Shao Hong, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society.
