CPPCC National Committee meets on improving waste recycling system

The Committee on Population, Resources and Environment of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held its annual analysis meeting on the development trend of population, resources and environment on July 25, focusing on strengthening the system for recycling waste and used materials. 

Shen Yueyue, vice-chairwoman of the CPPCC National Committee, addressed the meeting. CPPCC National Committee Vice-Chairman Wang Guangqian was also present.

Shen emphasized that improving the waste recycling system is a strategic move to ensure national resource security and advance green, low-carbon and circular development, underscoring the initiative's critical role in ecological progress and broader economic and social development.

Shen called for identifying major challenges in waste recycling, systematically analyzing weak links in the recycling system, conducting thorough research, and offering targeted, feasible, and scientifically grounded policy recommendations. She also urged CPPCC members to strengthen their sense of responsibility and mission, and fully leverage their principal role and the fundamental role of the Committee on Population, Resources and Environment in consultative work, to contribute to advancing green, low-carbon, and high-quality development and the building of a Beautiful China.

Several CPPCC National Committee members presented their views and suggestions on the topic. Experts from related enterprises and industry representatives were also invited to share insights.

Zhou Haibing, vice-chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission, and Li Gao, vice-minister of ecology and environment, provided briefings on recent progress and responded to questions from CPPCC members and experts.
