Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TDSL), led a team to Southwest China's Chongqing municipality on July 17 to carry out a democratic supervision survey on the environmental protection of the Yangtze River. The survey focused on emergency response to water pollution incidents, comprehensive water environment governance and aquatic ecosystem restoration.

The team visited the Hualongqiao water emergency rescue base in Yuzhong district to learn about local work on water emergency rescue, and the Gailanxi River water quality improvement station in Jiangbei district to gain insights on local efforts in integrated environmental treatment. The team carried out on-site surveys on pollution interception and pipeline integration, ecological water replenishment, and restoration of vegetation, and engaged in a boat tour to assess progress in environmental governance and ecological restoration along the "two rivers and four riverbanks" in Chongqing.

The team found that Chongqing has made progress in handling emergent water pollution incidents and in advancing watershed ecological management, and they further exchanged views with local officials on strengthening eco-friendly riverbank protection and fostering a clean, green riverside urban environment.

The team emphasized that the TDSL should continue to improve the effects and quality of its democratic supervision outcomes and ensure the successful completion of democratic oversight work on Yangtze River ecological protection, in order to contribute to Chongqing's green and high-quality development.

During the visit, Su also attended a plaque unveiling ceremony at the Non-Communist Parties' History Exhibition Hall in Chongqing, marking the establishment of a new TDSL education base. The facility will serve as an important platform for promoting historical education and carrying forward the league's fine traditions.
