Members of the Chairperson's Council of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) visited the Culture Palace of Nationalities in Beijing on July 17 to view the cultural relic and ancient book exhibitions dedicated to Xizang and Xinjiang. These exhibitions are part of a larger showcase of cultural relics and ancient books under the theme "Forging a Strong Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation".
Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, took part in the visit.
The exhibitions, organized by the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Xizang autonomous region and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. With a rich array of artifacts, historical documents and multimedia displays, they present a panoramic view of the development of Xizang and Xinjiang and the shared journey of China's ethnic groups in building a unified multiethnic nation.
CPPCC National Committee leaders viewed the exhibits attentively and listened to detailed explanations. After the visit, they held discussions with officials from the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the National Ethnic Affairs Commission and other relevant departments.
Participants agreed that history offers clear evidence that Xizang and Xinjiang have been inseparable parts of China since ancient times, and that all ethnic groups have jointly contributed to the country's glorious history. Since the start of the new era, both regions have witnessed unprecedented achievements in economic and social development, notable improvements in people's livelihoods, and continuous progress in ethnic unity affairs, resulting in an increased sense of gain, happiness and security among all ethnic groups.
They emphasized the need to forge a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation and to fully understand that unity, progress and common prosperity among all ethnic groups are essential to the nation's vitality, strength and future. They called for unwavering commitment to the Chinese approach to ethnic affairs.
CPPCC members, especially those from the CPPCC participating groups of ethnic minorities and religious bodies, were urged to study and implement the central leadership's strategies for governing Xizang and Xinjiang in the new era. They need to fulfill their responsibilities in ethnic and religious affairs, conduct in-depth research on major issues related to building the Chinese nation as one single community, and tell compelling stories about Xizang, Xinjiang, and the community of the Chinese nation, the participants noted. These efforts aim to promote extensive interaction and exchanges among all ethnic groups and contribute to advancing Chinese modernization through the great unity of the Chinese people, they said.
Li Ganjie, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, along with CPPCC National Committee vice-chairpersons Hu Chunhua, Bater, Gao Yunlong, Mu Hong, Xian Hui, Wang Dongfeng, Wang Guangqian, and Zhu Yongxin, joined the visit and discussion.
