The calligraphy and painting office of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held an art lecture at the auditorium of the CPPCC National Committee in Beijing on July 11. CPPCC vice-chairpersons Xian Hui, Wang Dongfeng and Qin Boyong attended the event.

Wu Weishan, deputy secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee, executive deputy director of the calligraphy and painting office and vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League, delivered the lecture, whose theme was promoting East-West artistic exchanges and telling China's stories well.

Taking sculptural art as his entry point, Wu shared insights into the key role of telling good stories about China in bringing Chinese culture to the world, and the importance of dialogue in cross-cultural exchanges. His lecture illustrated vivid scenes of how Chinese art and culture are going global and of the cultural interaction and mutual learning between Eastern and Western civilizations.

People who attended the lecture said it reinforced their understanding of the unique role of cultural and artistic exchange in presenting China's stories to the world. They emphasized the need to build a Chinese discourse and narrative system that reflects the Chinese spirit, the spirit of the times and aesthetic creativity, thereby shaping a trustworthy, appealing and respectable image of China.

They also called for enhancing international communication capacities and using rich, multidimensional, and perceptible artistic expressions to promote Chinese culture globally and contribute to deeper exchanges among civilizations.
