A team of non-CPC members of the Committee on Proposals of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee conducted a supervision survey from July 8 to 11 in Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, focusing on the handling of a key proposal on inheriting the cultural heritage of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45).

The team was led by Yang Zhen, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party.

The team visited the cities of Shangzhi and Harbin, where they toured memorial halls and old revolutionary sites. They paid tribute to revolutionary martyrs and commemorated the history of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

A symposium was also held during the survey to exchange insights and suggestions on preserving the cultural heritage. CPPCC members agreed that the survey — conducted ahead of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War — was a deeply moving patriotic educational experience that strengthened their ideals and convictions.

They emphasized that China's victory in the war marked the first complete victory won by the country in its resistance against foreign aggression in modern times. The cultural heritage from this period is a powerful testament to the resilience and heroism of the Chinese people, and protecting these historical sites is essential to preserving historical memory, they said.

Meeting participants emphasized the need to promote the great spirit of  resisting aggression and leverage the CPPCC's strengths to support the preservation and utilization of revolutionary cultural relics by telling good stories of China's victory in the war and offering more insightful and impactful proposals.

During the visit, Yang and the team also visited Harbin Institute of Technology for an exchange of research and met with CPPCC National Committee members working at the university.
