A cross-Strait basic education exchange event was held in South China's Hainan province from July 7 to 10, focusing on the high-quality development of urban-rural integration in basic education. The event was hosted by the liaison committee of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD) and organized by the Hainan Provincial Committee of the CAPD. 

As part of the event, Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference  and executive vice-chairman of the CAPD Central Committee, met with a delegation of scholars from Taiwan.

Scholars from the education sector in Taiwan visited local middle schools, and toured key sci-tech and cultural venues such as the Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City and exhibitions on Hainan's achievements in reform and opening-up and the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

At the main forum, Li Hu, director of the Department of Education of Hainan Province, delivered remarks and spoke about the province's educational progress. Experts and scholars from the Ministry of Education's Department of Basic Education, the Hainan Society of Education, Taitung University in Taiwan and Beijing Normal University gave keynote speeches. Scholars on both sides of the Taiwan Strait engaged in in-depth group discussions on the event's theme.

Gao Youdong, vice-chairman of the CAPD Central Committee, attended the event and addressed the forum. He noted that since its founding 80 years ago, the CAPD has remained committed to advancing China's educational development and promoting cultural and educational exchanges across the Taiwan Strait. 

Gao emphasized that achieving high-quality development of urban-rural integration in basic education is a shared goal for educators on both sides of the Strait. He expressed the hope that the event would foster mutual learning and generate fresh momentum for future cross-Strait educational cooperation.
