The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held a consultation meeting on July 9 in Beijing about the handling of a key proposal on supporting the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) as an international center for scientific and technological innovation. Xian Hui, vice-chairwoman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the meeting and delivered remarks.
Xian emphasized that GBA development is a major national strategy and it is essential to stay on the right course in building the GBA into an international center for sci-tech innovation, keep in line with the Communist Party of China Central Committee in thinking and action, and advance the development of new quality productive forces to drive high-quality growth of the GBA.
She called on CPPCC members to focus on national development needs, public expectations and their professional strengths and put forward more forward-looking, targeted and actionable proposals, enhancing the quality of their policy recommendations.
She also encouraged the proposal-handling agencies to strengthen communication with CPPCC members who've made the proposal and ensure the consultation runs throughout the whole process, thereby contributing to Chinese modernization through tangible results of proposal handling.
At the meeting, officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology provided an update on the progress in building the GBA into an international center for sci-tech innovation. Several CPPCC members outlined the background of the proposal and offered suggestions. Representatives from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the General Administration of Customs and the National Financial Regulatory Administration reported on the progress made in handling the proposal and responded to related questions.
Participants engaged in detailed discussions on key issues such as facilitating cross-border flow of research resources, building a GBA-specific model for intellectual property public services, and improving mechanisms for attracting innovative talents.
