A team from the Committee on Population, Resources and Environment of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee conducted a survey in Southwest China' Xizang autonomous region from June 30 to July 4, which focused on establishing and improving an ecological security monitoring and early warning system for the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The survey was led by Wang Guangqian, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.

The team visited wetlands, glaciers, lakes and rivers in the cities of Nyingchi, Lhasa, Shannan and Shigatse. They conducted field research at national climate observatories, the Lhasa River Basin Earth System Science Platform and weather modification catalyst sites, where they talked with scientists, grassroots officials and local residents, and convened meetings with relevant department heads to gather opinions and suggestions.

The team noted that in recent years the Communist Party of China (CPC) committees and governments at all levels in Xizang have adopted an integrated approach in the ecological governance of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands, deserts and glaciers. These efforts have significantly strengthened the region's ecological security and demonstrated proactive measures in the face of climate change.

The team emphasized that protecting the ecology of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is of strategic importance to the sustainable development of the Chinese nation. They stressed the need to align thoughts and actions with the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee, and urged the CPPCC to leverage its unique strengths by focusing on key issues in climate change response and the development of an ecological security monitoring and early warning system for the plateau. They also called for in-depth research and policy recommendations centered on enhancing technological support and building coordinated climate response mechanisms, contributing the CPPCC's wisdom and strength to the advancement of the Beautiful China initiative.
