Leung Chun-ying, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a team of Hong Kong members of the CPPCC National Committee on a survey tour to East China's Anhui province from May 26 to 30. The visit focused on strengthening cooperation between Hong Kong and Anhui and supporting the latter in leveraging the combined advantages under multiple national development strategies.

The team visited rural vitalization projects, revolutionary education sites, and high-tech industrial parks in the cities of Lu'an and Hefei. They also conducted field research at enterprises run by CPPCC members and held discussions with officials from relevant departments of the Anhui provincial government.

The team underscored the importance of fully implementing the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the second and third plenary sessions of the 20th CPC Central Committee. They called for comprehensive implementation of the new development philosophy, making full use of the combined advantages Anhui enjoys under multiple national strategies such as the emergence of the central region, the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the Belt and Road Initiative, driving high-quality development through technological innovation, and building confidence and consensus in advancing reform.

Noting Hong Kong's advantages as an international hub for finance, shipping, trade, and innovation, and Anhui's strengths in technological innovation, emerging industries, and cultural tourism, the team said that the two regions enjoy broad prospects for cooperation. CPPCC National Committee members from Hong Kong are well-positioned to serve as "super connectors" given their extensive networking resources, they said, pledging to share Anhui's stories, particularly its achievements in technological innovation, to attract more Hong Kong enterprises to invest and develop in Anhui, support Anhui-based businesses in expanding their presence in Hong Kong, and foster deeper exchanges and broader cooperation between the two regions. By drawing on their complementary strengths, Hong Kong and Anhui can pursue mutually beneficial development, they added.
