Members of the Chairperson's Council of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee conducted a study survey at Beijing Normal University on May 28.
Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the event.
The group was given a briefing on the university's history and achievements in talent cultivation. They also visited exhibitions featuring cultural relics, rare books, and accomplishments in ideological and political education. Following the tour, they held a symposium with attending CPPCC members and university officials.
Participants agreed that since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the CPC Central Committee has prioritized education for national development, and made the important decisions to deepen the implementation of the strategy of invigorating China through science and education and accelerate education modernization, while upholding and improving the overall leadership of the Party over educational affairs. Consistent efforts have been made to advance reforms in educational systems and mechanisms, yielding historic achievements in China's education sector in the new era, they noted.
They emphasized the need to be fully committed to promoting socialist education with Chinese characteristics and to nurture a new generation of capable young people with sound moral grounding, intellectual ability, physical vigor, aesthetic sensibility, and work skills who will fully develop socialism and carry forward the socialist cause. They called for strengthening and improving ideological and political education in schools to solidify the theoretical foundation for young people's development.
They also underscored the importance of closely aligning with the key demands of the nation, enhancing the development of fundamental disciplines, emerging fields and interdisciplinary studies, fostering top-tier innovative talent, and promoting the virtuous cycle between education, scientific innovation, and talent cultivation.
They urged deeper exploration and research on classical texts to solidify cultural confidence, preserve Chinese cultural heritage, and advance the creative transformation and innovative development of fine traditional Chinese culture.
The CPPCC, as a specialized consultative body, should contribute to promoting high-quality educational development and building China into a leading country in education by offering constructive suggestions, building consensus, and pooling wisdom and strength, they noted.
They called on CPPCC members, especially those from the education sector, to remain committed to their roles, uphold the spirit of educators, maintain high standards of professional ethics, and improve their teaching capabilities to better fulfill the mission of nurturing talent for the Party and the country.
CPPCC National Committee vice-chairpersons, including Hu Chunhua, Shen Yueyue, Wang Yong, Ho Hau Wah, Su Hui, Shao Hong, Mu Hong, Xian Hui, Wang Dongfeng, Jiang Zuojun, Wang Guangqian, Zhu Yongxin, and Yang Zhen, also participated in the study survey.
