The 2025 Hunan-Hong Kong investment and financing matchmaking conference, organized by the Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce and the Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), was held in Hong Kong on May 14.

This event, part of the 2025 Hunan-Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Economic and Trade Cooperation and Exchange Conference, aimed to strengthen alignment between premium projects in Hunan and capital from Hong Kong and the international market.

At the Hunan-Hong Kong investment conference, Leung Chun-ying, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said Hunan can better leverage the trade services of Hong Kong, as an international financial hub, to buy global products and sell its products to the world at the most desirable prices and with the lowest financing costs.

Mao Weiming, governor of Hunan province, highlighted Hong Kong as Hunan's largest offshore trading partner and a significant source of investment and inbound tourism in his speech at the conference. He called on Hunan and Hong Kong to focus on high-quality sci-tech-industry integration and innovation, give full play to their respective advantages in industrial cooperation, and strive to build Changsha, capital of Hunan, into a global research and development hub.

Bernard Chan, under-secretary for commerce and economic development of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, noted that Hong Kong will continue to strengthen its ties with investment promotion agencies from various provinces on the Chinese mainland, including Hunan, and provide free, professional, and customized one-stop services through the agency Invest Hong Kong to help Hunan enterprises seize the vast opportunities in the Greater Bay Area.

The conference also saw the release of a booklet on Hunan province's demand for project investment and financing, featuring 203 projects across 15 sectors, 60 percent of which are from high-tech enterprises.

The event witnessed the signing of preliminary cooperation agreements between multiple enterprises from Hunan and Hong Kong in fields such as smart manufacturing and biomedicine, laying the foundation for further collaboration.
