A team from the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Areas of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) visited Central China's Hubei province from May 10 to 12 to survey work on strengthening key water conservancy infrastructure for agriculture. The survey team was led by Hu Chunhua, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.
The team visited the Yangtze River embankments, irrigation and drainage pumping stations, high-standard farmland featuring small watershed comprehensive management, as well as grain production and circulation enterprises in the cities of Ezhou, Huanggang and Huangshi. They also talked with grassroots officials and residents to gain an in-depth understanding of the role of water conservancy infrastructure in supporting agricultural production.
The team noted that Hubei province has made significant progress in advancing water conservancy infrastructure in recent years, providing a solid guarantee for agricultural production and food security.
The team emphasized the need to consolidate water infrastructure and enhance the comprehensive production capacity of grain and other essential agricultural products.
The team also highlighted the importance of staying true to the roles and responsibilities of the CPPCC, leveraging its advantages, and intensifying research, in-depth consultation and deliberation to offer suggestions on strengthening water conservancy infrastructure and contribute to building China's agricultural capacity.
