The Central Committee of the Jiusan Society held a symposium in Beijing on May 7 to mark the 30th anniversary of the implementation of the national strategy of invigorating China through science and education. 

Wu Weihua, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and chairman of the Jiusan Society Central Committee, addressed the meeting. Shao Hong, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and executive vice-chairman of the Jiusan Society Central Committee, was also in attendance.

Wu noted that 30 years ago, the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council launched the national strategy of invigorating China through science and education, opening a new chapter for the prosperous development of the country's science and education sectors. Thirty years of practices have fully proven that the strategy has played a vital role in steering China toward prosperity and advancing the realization of Chinese modernization, he said.

Noting the constantly changing international landscape, Wu said science and technology, as a major part of the ongoing transformations, are also pivotal forces in reshaping global dynamics.

In response to these new circumstances, the CPC Central Committee has, with a comprehensive and forward-looking approach, placed scientific and technological innovation at the center of national development, and put forward new ideas, perspectives, and requirements for education, science, and talent development while fully grasping their development patterns, according to Wu.

He said that as a political party participating in the administration of State affairs and featuring a membership largely composed of mid- to high-level intellectuals in science and technology, the Jiusan Society bears an inescapable and critical responsibility to contribute to this cause. As this year also marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Jiusan Society, Wu called on its members to continue upholding the society's fine traditions of patriotism, democracy and science, and to contribute their expertise to the country's development and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
