Members of the Chairperson's Council of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) visited the National Theatre of China for a study survey on April 28.
Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the event.
The group heard a briefing on the historical development and work on artistic creation of the theatre, visited a history exhibition, and watched introduction videos on the theatre's latest work. Afterwards, they held a symposium with attending CPPCC members and officials from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and from the theatre.
The participants agreed that since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the CPC Central Committee has prioritized cultural development in state governance, launching a series of major initiatives and creating a range of original, iconic, and groundbreaking new concepts regarding developing a strong socialist culture in China. These efforts have resulted in historic accomplishment in promoting cultural development by clearing up misunderstandings and adhering to fundamental principles while embracing innovation, they noted.
The attendees emphasized the importance of taking the socialist path of promoting cultural advance with Chinese characteristics, adhering to a people-centered approach, and strengthening cultural confidence during the process of creative transformation and innovative development, in a bid to build up the Chinese spirit, values, and strength.
Efforts are needed to enhance cultural originality, and create more outstanding artistic works that are worthy of the times and the people, they said. The CPPCC should focus research and discussions on promoting the development of the cultural sector, improving the public cultural service system, and deepening reforms in cultural systems and mechanisms, and offer suggestions accordingly.
They called on CPPCC members, especially those from the literature and arts sector, to shoulder the cultural mission of the new era, contributing wisdom and strength to developing a strong socialist culture in China. CPPCC members were also urged to utilize platforms such as "serving the people," "bringing culture to communities," and "cultural and historical lectures" to provide cultural services to local communities and ensure that cultural achievements benefit the people.
Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, as well as CPPCC National Committee vice-chairpersons, including Hu Chunhua, Wang Yong, Bater, Gao Yunlong, Mu Hong, Xian Hui, Wang Dongfeng, He Baoxiang, Qin Boyong, and Zhu Yongxin, also participated in the study survey.
