The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held a science popularization lecture on ocean-based solutions to climate change in Beijing on April 25. The event was attended by CPPCC National Committee vice-chairpersons Shen Yueyue, Wang Yong, and Wang Dongfeng.

Jiao Nianzhi, a member of the CPPCC National Committee and an academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave the lecture. Jiao talked about global climate warming and the greenhouse effect, introduced the principles of ocean negative carbon emissions and ocean carbon sequestration, and presented ocean-based solutions to climate change. He also elaborated on the ocean's immense potential in mitigating the climate crisis, fostering a green economy, and improving the ecological environment.

More than 600 people attended the lecture, including members of the CPPCC's National Committee and local committees, scientific researchers, and teachers and students.

The science popularization lecture is an important part of the "serving the people" initiative of the CPPCC National Committee. It leverages the professional expertise of CPPCC members to improve the public's science literacy.
