A team from the Committee on Proposals of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee conducted a survey on the development of the silver economy in Central China's Hubei province from April 21 to 25. The team was led by Yang Zhen, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party. Yang delivered a speech at a symposium held during the survey.

The team visited elderly care centers, technology companies, universities, and communities in the cities of Wuhan, Jingzhou, and Yichang to assess the industrial development of the silver economy sector, elderly-friendly renovations of residential buildings, and talent development. They talked with local government officials, enterprise representatives, university leaders, and grassroots officials, gaining a thorough understanding of Hubei's efforts to develop the silver economy. The team also identified best practices and solicited feedback and suggestions in this regard.

The team emphasized the need to recognize the new trends and characteristics in population development, outline the scope of the silver economy sector, improve the consumption environment from the demand side, enhance provision of production factors on the supply side, and ensure the steady and sustainable growth of the silver economy through a multi-pronged approach.

The team stressed that the CPPCC, as a specialized consultative body, should conduct research and investigations focused on the diverse needs of the elderly and their pressing issues. CPPCC members should make practical and effective proposals to support the scientific decision-making and effective implementation of policies by the Communist Party of China and the central government, helping to promote the high-quality development of the silver economy, they noted.
