The Committee on Culture, Historical Data and Studies of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee organized a study tour in Beijing on April 23 to mark the 30th World Book Day.
The study tour brought together members from the press and publications participating group of the CPPCC National Committee. It included visits to the Bi Sheng Bookstore at the Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication and the Shu Yong Art Museum, where they held discussions on advancing diverse reading initiatives.
Shao Hong, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and head of the CPPCC reading activity steering group, attended the event. CPPCC National Committee members Shu Yong, Sun Baolin, Liu Ning, and Liu Chengyong, along with grassroots reading promoters and cultural workers shared their experiences and perspectives.
Speakers noted that reading is essential for gaining knowledge and wisdom, as well as a key channel for preserving cultural heritage and enhancing public literacy. Promoting nationwide reading is of great significance for achieving socialist cultural and ethical progress and driving broader social progress, they said.
Participants pledged to read more books, especially good books, and learn from the reading, to strengthen political awareness, expand knowledge, sharpen critical thinking, and enhance performance in fulfilling their duties. They also vowed to encourage broader public engagement in reading, foster reading habits, and enhance reading skills across sectors, thereby contributing to the high-quality development of nationwide reading initiative and the building of a strong socialist culture in China.
