The Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang (RCCK) Central Committee convened a work meeting on the democratic oversight of Yangtze River ecological protection in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, on April 17.
Zheng Jianbang, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and chairman of the RCCK Central Committee, addressed the meeting. He Baoxiang, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and executive vice-chairman of the RCCK Central Committee, presided over the meeting.
Zheng emphasized that the five-year democratic oversight initiative on Yangtze River ecological protection is a major political task entrusted by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee to other political parties and personages without party affiliation. As 2025 marks the final year of this initiative, it is essential to review the progress made in 2024, outline tasks for 2025, and ensure the high-quality completion of the oversight mission, contributing to safeguarding the Yangtze River’s ecological environment and promoting green development along the Yangtze River Economic Belt, he said.
He urged full implementation of the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, emphasizing alignment with the RCCK's efforts to enhance capacity for fulfilling duties and build consensus for collective action. He called for a sustained problem-oriented strategy to further improve the quality and effectiveness of the work, and emphasized the need to apply targeted, professional, and scientific standards to ensure that the outcomes of democratic oversight are objective, fair, and precise. He also highlighted the importance of summarizing experiences and effective practice to demonstrate the RCCK's democratic oversight effectiveness.
Zheng called on participants to be witnesses, storytellers, and advocates of the democratic oversight work — showcasing the major progress in building a Beautiful China, highlighting the strengths of the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and sharing stories of democratic oversight.
He also encouraged proactive thinking in exploring themes and approaches for future democratic oversight work, and continuous efforts in offering insights and suggestions for the next round of democratic oversight.
