Shen Yueyue, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a team to survey fertility support policies in Northeast China's Liaoning province from March 31 to April 3.
In the cities of Chaoyang, Shenyang and Dandong, the team visited childcare institutions, maternal and pediatric hospitals, community healthcare service centers and related enterprises. They held symposiums to assess Liaoning's progress, challenges and practical experience in improving fertility support policies, and made household visits to solicit opinions from grassroots officials and residents.
The team emphasized the need to fully understand and adapt to the new demographic reality. They called for stronger overall planning, greater interdepartmental coordination, and deeper reforms to integrate policy considerations covering marriage, childbirth, child rearing, education, employment, healthcare, housing, and elderly care, and to establish a comprehensive population service system that spans all groups and all life stages, thereby promoting long-term balanced population development.
A problem-solving and goal-oriented approach is needed for enhancing fertility support policies, the team said, calling for efforts to meet the urgent needs of families in childbearing, rearing and education. Efforts are needed to identify and refine effective practices to encourage childbirth, help solve rearing difficulties and relieve parenting burdens, and contribute wisdom to building a fertility-friendly society and achieving a balanced fertility level.
