A team from the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) visited East China's Fujian province from March 17 to 21 to inspect local governance on religious affairs. Bater, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, led the team.
The team went to the cities of Putian, Quanzhou, Xiamen and Fuqing, where they inspected religious institutions, religious venues, and grassroots communities to assess efforts in advancing law-based governance of religious affairs.
The team noted that, in recent years, Fujian has implemented the Communist Party of China's basic policy on religious affairs as well as relevant national laws and regulations, achieving significant progress in improving the governance of religious affairs under the rule of law. The province has also fostered greater legal awareness among religious figures and believers while maintaining overall harmony and stability, they said.
The team emphasized the need to leverage the CPPCC's role as a specialized consultative body to further uphold the principle of developing religions in the Chinese context and enhance management of religious affairs in accordance with the law.
CPPCC members from religious bodies pledged to uphold patriotic values, take the lead to abide by laws in carrying out religious activities, and foster a stronger sense of national identity, civic responsibility, and legal awareness to consolidate a sense of community for the Chinese nation.
