A team from the Committee on Education, Science, Health and Sports of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) visited a bookstore in Beijing to conduct a survey on the social value of public reading spaces on March 12. Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD) Central Committee, led the visit to the June Shine Book Store at Ginza Mall, where they held a symposium.

The team gained insights into the store's innovative efforts in creating new public reading spaces for young readers and its initial progress. They also learned about the CAPD Beijing Municipal Committee's initiatives in promoting national reading campaign and listened to feedback on challenges encountered while advancing these efforts.

Zhu noted that during the recently concluded third session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, a joint group meeting on education was held for members of the CPPCC National Committee from the China Democratic League, the CAPD, and the education sector. Zheng Jiajian, a CAPD member and president of Fujian Normal University, gave a presentation on building a healthy reading culture for children and minors at the meeting.

Zhu said the CAPD Central Committee and the Committee on Education, Science, Health and Sports should study and implement the guiding principles on education and talent cultivation from the just-concluded two sessions. Through joint research on efforts to advance nationwide reading, they aim to summarize best practices, identify challenges, and provide recommendations to improve the system of promoting reading nationwide.
