The calligraphy and painting office of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) convened a work symposium in Beijing on March 12. The meeting was organized to study the guiding principles of the latest sessions of the National People's Congress and the CPPCC National Committee, review work in the past year and outline tasks for 2025.
Wang Dongfeng, vice-chairman and secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee and director of the calligraphy and painting office, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
Wang acknowledged the office' efforts in serving the country's major tasks and contributing to the development and prosperity of the socialist cultural undertakings, with focus on unity and democracy. He noted that the 14th CPPCC National Committee attaches great importance to the work of the office. In 2024, the office successfully organized a painting and calligraphy exhibition commemorating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the CPPCC and made notable progress in institutional and organizational development, he added.
Wang urged the office to earnestly implement the guiding principles of the two sessions and achieve its goals for 2025 by strengthening theoretical guidance, uniting CPPCC members from the painting and calligraphy community, contributing insights on building up China's cultural strength, and creating outstanding contemporary works that uphold artistic integrity and professional ethics.
He called for further improvements in institutional mechanisms and platform development and intensifying branding initiatives for calligraphy and painting works of CPPCC members. He also stressed the need to create high-quality works to reflect the spirit of the new era, showcase China's cultural vitality, and celebrate the country's achievements.
