A symposium on the study and implementation of the guiding principles of the third plenary session of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Central Economic Work Conference, gathering people from emerging social groups, was held in Beijing on Feb 19.
Shi Taifeng, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended and addressed the event.
Shi noted that the CPC Central Committee places great importance on the united front work concerning people from emerging social groups, underscoring their role as builders of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the need for better guidance to maximize their role. Under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee, the united front work concerning people from emerging social groups has made remarkable progress, he said. The advancement of reforms, building China into a great modern country, and rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese modernization all require the joint efforts of all ethnic groups in the country, including those from emerging social groups, he added.
He called on people from emerging social groups to strengthen their confidence and determination to work together under the CPC's leadership and contribute to advancing Chinese modernization. Representatives of these groups should focus on self-improvement and inspire more individuals from their groups to unite around the CPC, he said.
Over 100 people, including officials from the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and the China Association for Science and Technology, as well as heads of emerging social group associations in provincial-level regions and of service teams for these groups, participated in the symposium.
