A team from the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD) Central Committee conducted a democratic oversight survey on the ecological protection of the Yangtze River in East China's Jiangxi province from Feb 13 to 16.

Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and executive vice-chairman of the CAPD Central Committee, headed the team.

The team went to the cities of Yichun and Fuzhou, where they conducted on-site  surveys on risk prevention and control of and response to environmental emergencies, and the mechanism for the value realization of ecological products. Meetings were also held with relevant officials to solicit opinions and exchange views.  

Zhu pointed out that a strong sense of responsibility is essential in building a beautiful China in all respects and promoting harmony between humanity and nature. He called for improvements in environmental emergency response  mechanism, enhancement of basic response capabilities, and stronger talent fostering efforts to improve the quality of the ecological environment, thereby safeguarding public health and ecological security.

Noting that Jiangxi is a national pilot zone for ecological civilization and a pilot province of national mechanism for ecological products value realization, Zhu urged governments at all levels in Jiangxi to continue exploring ways to realize the value of ecological products, chart a development path that integrates environmental protection of the Yangtze River with green development, and achieve a virtuous cycle of ecological enhancement and economic growth.

Zhu also pointed out that the CAPD Central Committee's democratic oversight of Yangtze River ecological protection in Jiangxi has entered its final year. He called for further supervision and surveys, focusing on assisting local authorities in solving practical issues. The supervision process, he stressed, should be used to identify and resolve problems, and promote the implementation of policies. 

Furthermore, outstanding cases and individuals that have emerged in the democratic supervision of the protection work should be collected and promoted as vivid cases demonstrating China's ecological civilization philosophy, he added.
