The Committee on Population, Resources and Environment of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its third plenary meeting on Jan 15. CPPCC National Committee vice-chairpersons Shen Yueyue and Wang Guangqian addressed the meeting.

The meeting studied the guiding principles of major conferences, including the Central Economic Work Conference and the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. It also reviewed the special committee's work in 2024 and discussed the work plan for 2025. 

The meeting acknowledged the committee's work in 2024 in focusing on critical issues in the fields of population, resources and the environment. The meeting also recognized the committee's effective efforts in leveraging the role of its members, its position as one of the CPPCC National Committee's special committees, and the advantages of the CPPCC participating group in the field of the environment and resources. Progress was made in consultations and deliberation of State affairs, inspections and surveys, and research on major issues, the meeting noted.

In 2025, the committee will adopt a quality-first approach and enhance reform and innovation. Prioritizing support for the formulation of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), the committee will organize consultations and deliberation of State affairs with high quality, and strive to offer more forward-looking, targeted, and feasible recommendations, according to the meeting.

The committee will continue to strengthen ideological and political guidance and consensus building, promote policies at grassroots communities, and conduct science popularization activities, in a bid to pool wisdom and strength to advance Chinese modernization, the meeting concluded.
