A directors' meeting of the calligraphy and painting office of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) was held in Beijing on Dec 27. The meeting reviewed the work of the office in 2024 and deliberated on the work plan for 2025.

Wang Dongfeng, vice-chairman and secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee, and director of the calligraphy and painting office, presided over the meeting.

Wang emphasized the historic accomplishments in advancing cultural development since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). He noted that the major tasks outlined in the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, particularly in deepening reform in the cultural sector, provide a fundamental guideline and a clear direction for cultural development and reforms in the new era. 

Wang urged the office to thoroughly study and implement the guiding principles of the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, and consciously transform the objectives into tangible actions.

Wang said the office must adhere to the fundamental principles and break new ground, resolutely follow the path of socialist culture with Chinese characteristics, and uphold a people-centered creation orientation. He emphasized leveraging calligraphy and painting art as a medium to enhance the soft power and influence of Chinese culture, so as to better shoulder the new cultural mission on the new journey in the new era.

Looking ahead to 2025, Wang called for efforts to produce more masterpieces in calligraphy and painting, and showcase the spiritual identity and cultural essence of Chinese civilization. He stressed the office's role in fostering a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, consolidating the unity of the Chinese nation and enhancing the influence of traditional Chinese culture.

Wang also called on CPPCC National Committee members in the calligraphy and painting sector to tap their roles and strive to open a new chapter in the work of the calligraphy and painting office.
