To mark the 39th International Volunteer Day on Dec 5, a team from the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) visited Tianjin to inspect work on volunteer services. Xian Hui, vice-chairwoman of the CPPCC National Committee, led the team on their three-day visit from Dec 3 to 5.
The team visited communities, Red Cross rescue and aid service centers, and volunteer service stations in Tianjin to gain insights into local progress in mechanism improvement, branding, and logistics support of the volunteer service work.
The team also held a meeting to hear reports from relevant departments and exchanged views on volunteer service development.
Noting Tianjin's significant role as the birthplace of community volunteer organizations, the team commended its achievements in advancing the volunteer service sector.
They emphasized the need to strengthen the leadership of the Communist Party of China over volunteer service work, refine the support system, and foster a vibrant volunteer culture. Volunteer services should align with evolving public demands, and technological advances should be fully utilized to empower the sector, so as to further improve grassroots social governance, the team noted.
The CPPCC will leverage its role as a specialized consultative body to contribute ideas and efforts to further enhancing the volunteer service system, the team added.
