The Jiusan Society held a symposium in Beijing on Nov 30, which is themed on innovating the medical device industry to empower the development of the western area of the Chinese capital.

Shao Hong, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, delivered a speech at the seminar.

Shao said the symposium aimed to provide intellectual support for the development of the medical device industry and forest tourism and wellness industry in Mentougou district in western Beijing, and offer suggestions for promoting technological and industrial innovation in the city, as well as contributing to the development of a new governance model for an aging society.

Shao stressed the need to focus on the coordinated development strategy for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, helping western Beijing form a complementary and win-win industrial pattern with other areas to achieve high-quality development.

Efforts are needed to support the development of the pharmaceutical and health industry in western Beijing in line with the goals of the Healthy China initiative, and to achieve resource sharing and complementary advantages, so as to establish a leading position in the medical and health industry, he said.

Shao also encouraged the Jiusan Society to fully utilize its close ties with the scientific and technological community to facilitate the integrated development of technological and industrial innovation in western Beijing, thereby contributing to the building of a strong country in science and technology.
