The General Office of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held a symposium on the work of reflecting social conditions and public opinion for 2024 on Nov 29. 

Major tasks on the meeting agenda were to summarize related work in 2024 and exchange work experiences, as well as to make plans for implementing the newly revised regulations on the public opinion work of the CPPCC National Committee  and strengthening mechanisms to improve the quality and effectiveness of this work.

Wang Dongfeng, vice-chairman and secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a speech to the meeting.

Wang acknowledged the new progress made by the General Office of the CPPCC National Committee in implementing the arrangements on public opinion work and supporting the CPPCC in playing its role as a specialized consultative body.

He stressed the importance of serving scientific decision-making and effective policy implementation, promoting socialist democracy and whole-process people's democracy, and improving the public opinion work from institutional, standardized and procedural perspectives.

On next year's public opinion work, Wang said efforts need to focus on major, strategic, and forward-looking issues in economic and social development, particularly in areas where reform is needed or where high-quality development is impeded. He also brought attention to challenges in people's livelihoods, hot topics with social concerns, and risks in major sectors.

He also urged stronger leadership and the use of the CPPCC's unique advantages to enhance the quality, timeliness and effectiveness of public opinion work.
