The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held a science popularization lecture on fusion energy at Hebei University in Baoding, North China's Hebei province, on Nov 28.
Chen Wu and Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairmen of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the event.
Zhang Jie, a member of the CPPCC National Committee's Standing Committee and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave the lecture titled "Laser Fusion to Illuminate the Future". He introduced the history and future development trends of fusion energy, analyzed the significance of technological transformation in the energy sector in the progress of human civilization, and discussed the opportunities and challenges China faces in moving towards the era of fusion energy. Zhang also engaged in interactive exchanges with the audience.
More than 500 people, including CPPCC National Committee members from Hebei province, staff from the China Association for Science and Technology, members of CPPCC local committees, and representatives of teachers and students, took part in the event.
The science lecture is an important part of the "serving the people" initiative of the CPPCC National Committee. It leverages the professional expertise of CPPCC National Committee members to contribute to economic development and social progress, as well as building a society that values and respects science.
