The Committee on Education, Science, Health and Sports of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a consultation meeting on Nov 26 to discuss integrating vocational and general education and accelerating the development of a modern vocational education system.

The meeting brought together CPPCC members, experts, scholars and representatives from relevant departments of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MHRSS) for in-depth discussions. Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the China Association for Promoting Democracy Central Committee, delivered a speech at the meeting.

The meeting emphasized the need to further recognize the current tasks and challenges faced by vocational education in the new era, and to contribute ideas and efforts towards accelerating the construction of a modern vocational education system.

It is important to leverage the advantages of CPPCC members, and put forward practical and effective suggestions based on proposals, public opinion, inspections and surveys to advance the development of the vocational education system that features integration of vocational and general education and of teaching and practice.

Representatives from the MOE and the MHRSS introduced the basic situation, development strategies, and initiatives for the integration of vocational and general education. 

Several CPPCC members and experts provided suggestions on various aspects, including advancing vocational-general education integration, building a vocational education system, fostering a new environment for vocational education, optimizing the discipline structure of higher vocational colleges, expanding the scope of vocational education from middle school through college, improving the mechanism for linking vocational undergraduate education and general higher education, and promoting the development of practice platforms for teaching-practice integration.
