The award ceremony for the 36th Han Suyin International Translation Contest was held in Beijing on Nov 23, which also featured a symposium on "Translation as a Bridge for Civilization Exchange".

Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the China Association for Promoting Democracy Central Committee, delivered a special address.

Zhu emphasized the critical role of translation in addressing challenges in international communication and fostering exchange and mutual learning among civilizations. He called for sustained efforts in China's translation circle to align with the goal of building up China’s cultural strength, and consolidate the foundation for exchanges among civilizations through translation. Zhu also highlighted the importance of fostering translation professionals, focusing on people-centered cultural development.

The event also featured a lecture on candidate translation works, and two panel discussions themed on "Translation and Enhancing National Cultural Soft Power" and "Translation and Talent Cultivation for Dialogue and Mutual Learning among Civilizations".

The event, under the guidance of the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, was co-hosted by the Translators Association of China and the China Academy of Translation.
