Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a team from the Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and Overseas Chinese of the CPPCC National Committee to East China's Fujian province from Nov 17 to 21 to conduct a survey on efforts to explore new approaches to deepening cross-Strait integrated development and building the province into a demonstration zone for this drive.

The team visited the cities of Fuzhou, Xiamen, Ningde, Quanzhou and Zhangzhou, and the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, to observe entrepreneurship hubs for young people from Taiwan, as well as apartments, health insurance service centers and integrated service center for vocational qualification for Taiwan compatriots. They also visited the Xiamen-Kinmen passenger terminal of the Mini Three Links, which refers to small-scale trade, shipping and postal services between Fujian province and Kinmen Island and the Matsu Island group.

They held discussions with Taiwan compatriots living and working in Fujian, as well as officials from relevant departments, to gain insights into the progress, innovative measures, and challenges in building Fujian into a demonstration zone for integrated development across the Taiwan Strait.

The team emphasized the importance of building the demonstration zone and effectively implementing the requirement and measures listed in the circular jointly issued by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council in 2023 on the matter.

The team noted that it is essential to balance short-term priorities with long-term goals, adopt problem-oriented and results-driven approaches, and develop practical and flexible policies tailored to the needs of Taiwan businesses and compatriots.

They stressed the need to enhance coordination, aligning central government empowerment with local innovation, balancing immediate results with sustained impact, and integrating Fujian's exploratory role into the nationwide drive.

They said that, through proactive departmental action, Fujian's implementation efforts, and broad societal participation, the demonstration zone can break new ground in cross-Strait integrated development and contribute to the reunification of the motherland.
