The committees on agriculture and rural areas of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee and local committees held a work symposium in Nanning, South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, from Nov 7 to 8. Hu Chunhua and Qin Boyong, vice-chairpersons of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered speeches to the gathering.

Hu emphasized the important role of special committees of the CPPCC, urging the committees on agriculture and rural areas at both national and local levels to perform their duties, and strengthen communication and coordination to align national and local efforts in a bid to make greater contributions to related work in the new era.

Qin said the agriculture and rural areas committees of the CPPCC should pool expertise and resources to promote integrated urban-rural development and achieve modernization of agriculture and rural areas. She stressed the importance of leveraging the unique strengths of participating groups of the CPPCC, improving the "serving the people" mechanism and enhancing support for farmers and agriculture by breaking ground in related theoretical research work.

Wang Jianjun, head of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Areas of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered the keynote report, while deputy head Wang Xiaodong presided over the meeting.

Zhu Weidong, deputy director of the Office of the Central Financial and Economic Affairs Commission, gave a lecture on related topics.

CPPCC officials from 17 provincial-level regions as well as relevant special committees also shared their insights.
