Members from the All China Women's Federation (ACWF) group of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a consultation meeting in Beijing on Oct 31, focusing on ensuring employment rights for women who have given birth and fostering a birth-friendly society.
Officials from the National Health Commission (NHC) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MHRSS) attended the consultation along with CPPCC National Committee vice-chairpersons Shen Yueyue and Wang Guangqian.
Noting that population development is crucial for building a great country and rejuvenating the nation, Shen called for an enhanced sense of responsibility in population-related work, and maximizing the CPPCC's role as a specialized consultative body to offer suggestions and participate in handling issues related to building a birth-friendly society and promoting high-quality population development.
The CPPCC National Committee's ACWF group and other special committees should fully play their part to better connect with and serve the people so as to build consensus in the fostering of a birth-friendly society, she added.
During the meeting, NHC Vice-Minister Guo Yanhong and MHRSS Vice-Minister Yu Jiadong provided relevant updates, while 12 CPPCC National Committee members spoke and talked with attending officials from the two departments.
