The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) committees in North and Northeast China held a symposium on proposal work in Beijing from Oct 29 to 30.
Yang Zhen, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, addressed the meeting.
Yang emphasized the need to implement the central leadership's instructions on CPPCC work, and make the CPPCC system more institutional, standardized and procedure-based. Efforts are needed to advance innovation in the theoretical, practical, and institutional aspects of proposal work and improve the quality of proposals to better serve scientific and democratic decision-making and its implementation, he said.
Wei Xiaodong, chairman of the CPPCC Beijing Municipal Committee, said the symposium has become a key platform for advancing high-quality proposal work of the CPPCC's local committees. He said that the CPPCC Beijing Municipal Committee has always adhered to the overall leadership of the Communist Party of China, and made progress in facilitating the handling of proposals, increasing the proportion of collective proposals, exploring new ways to promote transparency of the proposal handling process, and promoting coordinated proposal work between municipal and district-level CPPCC committees. He expressed hope for in-depth discussions at the symposium on how CPPCC proposal work can better implement the concept of whole-process people's democracy, support the function of the CPPCC as a specialized consultative body, and serve the Chinese modernization.
CPPCC members from the Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang committees attended the symposium and shared their insights.
