The committees on education, science, health and sports at all levels of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a work symposium in Chongqing from Oct 24 to 25, at which CPPCC National Committee vice-chairmen Chen Wu and Zhu Yongxin delivered speeches.

The meeting underscored the significant role of education, science, health and sports in advancing national development, saying work in these sectors involve both the major tasks of the country and the daily concerns of the people.

The meeting participants noted that the committees on education, science, health and sports at all levels have actively contributed to reform and innovation in these fields, deliberating issues impacting both national and local economic and social development, as well as concerns directly related to people's wellbeing and providing suggestions accordingly.

Efforts should be made to leverage the unique strengths of the CPPCC to conduct surveys, promote consultation, exercise democratic oversight and build broad consensus, the meeting stated.

In addition, special committees of the CPPCC at all levels should further enhance their capabilities, pursue self-development and refine work approaches in order to better perform their duties, the meeting concluded.

During the meeting, participants from various local committees on education, science, health and sports shared their innovative practices and related experiences.
